Thor Photography and Explore Light present a 7-day / 6-night winter photography workshop in Finnish Lapland, dedicated to capturing the magic of the Arctic winter. The focus is on Lapland’s iconic tykky trees snow-laden forests shaped into surreal, sculptural forms along with the soft light and stillness that define the season.
This immersive experience is designed for photographers who want to create striking winter images in one of Europe’s most atmospheric and visually unique landscapes.

Join an unforgettable 7-day photography tour in Finnish Lapland and experience the true magic of the Arctic winter. Located far above the Arctic Circle, Lapland is one of the world’s most extraordinary destinations for Northern Lights photography, winter landscapes, and Arctic wildlife.
Winter in Finnish Lapland is defined by deep snow, frozen forests, and the unique atmosphere of the polar night. These conditions create exceptional opportunities for photographers to capture dramatic scenery, soft Arctic light, and the mesmerizing glow of the Aurora Borealis.
Getting to Finland
You want to fly into Rovaniemi airport ( RVN )
In most cases you'd need to connect through Helsinki airport ( HEL )but in some cases there might be direct flights.
Physical Requirements:
This workshop will not include any difficult hikes.
Most locations are either very close to where we can stop or 10 to 30 min easy walk.
There is one hike planned on this trip, where we hike to the beatiful snowcovered trees "Tykkiy".
The hike is not hard, gradual accent of about 130m and about 1.5 km ( 1 mile ).Day by day plan
Day 1: Arrival Day (5th January)
We meet up at the Rovanimai ariport no later than 5:30pm we'll then make our way over to Ruka where we'll stay for the entire trip.
-Overnight in Ruka
Day 2-3-4-5-6:
We make our decision on where we go each day based on the forecast.
Normally we only need to travel for about 20 - 40 min to our locations.
One of the days we'll taka a snowmobil tour up to a mountain where we'll spend the day photographing a beautiful snowcovered forrest (Tykky trees).
We'll also visit the magical area of Myllykoski ( a watermill ) in a beautiful wintery setting.
We'll do a hike in the Riisitunturi national park where we focus on making magical images of the famous Tykky trees in the early morning light.
There is plenty to do in this area.
-Overnight RukaDay 7 (departure day 11th January)
We go for our final breakfast before checking out and make our journey over to the airport in Rovanami (about 2.5 hour drive) where we say goodbye and catch our flights back home.

General info
We do not aim for a fixed itinerary apart from where we are staying.
Besites from tried and tested location there is so much in the area worth stopping for, small little cabins tucked inbetween hoarfrosted trees, patially frozen rivers etc. it is all based on the conditions each day.
A packing list will be sent out prior to the workshop along with list of what is recommended to bring, gear wise.

Deposit: €500 EUR
A €500 EUR non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your space for this workshop.
The remaining balance is due on October 3rd , 2027 via banktransfer only.
If the remaining balance is not paid in full, your space will be forfeited.
Minimum 8 participants is needed for this workshop to go ahead.
