Workshop

Thor Photography has teamd up with award winning photographer Mike Mezeul II offering a photo workshop spanning 9 days 8 nights where we will tour the most jawdropping locations along the west and  north coast of Iceland.
 
 
 
Dates: 1st-9thOctober 2018.
Group size: 10 students.
Price: 4100 USD

Students will learn:

  • How to create compelling and enticing landscape compositions.
  • How to properly expose for an image throughout all variety of light invluding prime and non-prime lighting conditions.
  • How to photograph the night sky, create star trails and with some luck, capture the aurora borealis!
  • How to use their camera to it´s best capabilities.
  • How to utilize motion blur to capture dramatic seascapes and waterfall images.
  • Workflow techniques for Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • Much, much more!

What you need:

  • A DSLR camera
  • A variety of lenses - a wide angle lens will be your most used on this trip.
  • A sturdy tripod
  • An intervalometer (to create star trails... a cheap one will do just fine)
  • Multiple memory cards
  • Extra batteries
  • Laptop
  • Photoshop and Lightroom installed on your computer (at least the trial versions)

 

What´s included in the Workshop:
  • Lodging at each location upon double occupancy (single occupancy adds 700 USD).
  • Breakfast daily.
  • Daily hands on time with the instructors, we will both be available to you all day long.
  • Transportation throughout the workshop.
  • Park entrance fees.
  • Welcome and farewell dinner
What´s NOT included in the Workshop:
  • Airfaire to and from Keflavik International Airport.
  • Transportation from Keflavik to first night host hotel, and last night for departure. We highly reccommend the FlyBus Plus for transportation to/from the airport/host hotel. (See further below)
  • Alcoholic beverages and desserts.
  • Meals, except meals mentioned above.

Itinerary:

Besides beginning and ending in Reykjavík, we must keep our intinerary flexible since we will base exact location choices on weather and best conditions for photographing each time. The same applies for shooting the Aurora.
(Note: Each night we will monitor conditions for the aurora borealis. If the conditions are good we will of course head out to photograpph the infamous northern ligths!)
 

Arrival day - 1st October:

Upon arriving, we suggest using the FlyBus service from Keflavik Airport to the host hotel. Taxis are also available near the terminal building.
The FlyBus service is located right outside the terminal building and the cost is around $28USD each way. Book online using the FlyBus Plus service which will drop you off at your hotel. You can book a round trip to take you back to the airport after the tour.

We will meet in the lobby of our host hotel at 6:30 PM and go from there to a nearby restaurant for a meet and greet dinner where we get to know each other and have a chat about what we will be doing during the coming week.
 

Day 2 and 3:

After breakfast we leave Reykjavík early and head west to our first locations. The exact locations depend on weather conditions. Sneafellsnes area is sort of Iceand in a nutshell, where you can find almost all geological elements that Iceland has to offer.
Seascapes are a big part of Sneafellsnes photo location but it also have probably the most photographed mountain in all of Iceland, Mt. Kirkjufell.

Possible locations:
Hraunfossar-Búðir (black church)-Arnarstapi and near by area- Lóndrangar-Svörtuloft-Kirkjufell mountain.
We will be staying for 2 nights in Sneafellssnes peninsula.

Day 4:

After sunrise and breakfast we leave Sneafellsnes peninsula and start to head further north to Hvammstangi which will be our next stop.
Our main location there is Hvítserkur rock, a 15 meters tall stand alone rock.
Possible locations:
Hvítserkur rock - Kolugljúfur waterfall

Day 5-6-7:

After sunrise and breakfast at our hotel in Hvammstangi we drive towards Mývatn area where we will be spending next 3 nights.
This area is packed with great locations such as majestic waterfalls, geothermal area and more.
Possible locations:
Goðafoss (waterfall) – Aldeyjarfoss (waterfall) – Námaskarð (geothermal area) – Dettifoss (waterfall) –Selfoss (Waterfall) – Hrafnbjargarfoss (waterfall)

Day 8:

We start the day with a sunrise shoot and then breakfast before we start to head back towards Reykjavík. We‘ll be back in Reykjavík for farewell dinner that evening.

Námaskarð-Goðafoss-Hraunfossar

Departure day - 9th October:

Departures back to Keflavík airport - or stay for a while and explore, it is up to you! Again, we reccomend using the FlyBus+

Tuition: $4100 USD
Deposit: $2050 USD
 
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your space for this workshop, or you may pay in full. The remaining balance is due on August 1st , 2018. If the remaining balance is not paid in full, your space will be forfeited.
