Lofoten Photography Workshop

With Thor & Peter Gordon

In Jan 30th to February 5th you can join award winning photographers Thorarinn Jonsson and Peter Gordon of Explore light on this

7-day adventurous photography workshop in the captivating landscape of Lofoten islands, Norway.

This usually stunning area becomes even more magical and striking in the wintertime with its snowy mountain peaks, turquoise seascapes, clean beaches, dramatic fjords, and of course we will have our fingers crossed the Northern Lights.

There are no big drives on this trip so plenty of time to concentrate on your shooting.

Travelling to Norway:

You will want to fly into Oslo and connect through there to Leknes, we'll be picking you up at the airport upon arrival in Leknes.

Physical Requirements:

This workshop is easy for anyone, we'll not be taking on any difficult hikes.

Where are we staying?

We will be lodging at 2 locations during our stay in Lofoten. The accommodations are beautiful and conveniently located for our shooting locations.

Highlights:

  • Leknes

  • Hamnoy

  • Reine

  • Skagsanden beach

  • Haukland beach

  • and many other lesser known locations

In a nutshell.

This workshop is covering some of the best parts in the archipelago Lofoten Islands in northern Norway which is located at 2 degrees north of the arctic cirlce, myself and Peter have been travelling to this beautiful locations for some years now and we have loads of lesser known locations we've discover over the years.

This time of year we have sunrise around 9am and sunset around 3:30 PM which will allow for beautiful light all day long and with Aurora season in full swing we will be hunting them whenever the conditions will be favourable.
Since the weather can be quite changeable in this part of Norway we always take the weather into account when we decide what location we choose to shoot at any given time.

Our base for this 7-day winter photography adventure will be the Lofoten Islands in Norway. This usually stunning area becomes even more magical and striking with its snowy mountain peaks, turquoise seascapes, clean beaches, dramatic fjords, and fingers crossed the Northern Lights.

At this time of year, the light is good all day; sunrises come later and sunsets earlier so we aim to capture both every day and stay out shooting throughout.

There’s no big drives on this trip so plenty of time to concentrate on your shooting.

One of the most exciting aspects of this workshop is the challenge posed by the weather, which can be changeable and means that we could be photographing in bright, clear conditions or shooting snow and ice. We’ll keep a flexible itinerary to capture the best the weather brings us. You will be able to try your hand at creative compositions using tripods and long exposure techniques.

If the skies are clear we’ll also try northern lights where possible. If the lights are not cooperating we can always do some post-processing in the evenings and enjoy socialising with the other participants.

The pictures below give you a great idea of what we are aiming for.
